Iowa 38 Wisconsin 16

I thought the Hawks had a good chance to win, but I certainly wasn’t expecting this. Shonn Greene ran for the 6th most rushing yards in Hawkeye history with 217 and 4 TDs. He is still 3rd on the list for rushing yards in the NCAA, but he is now 25 yards away from Ringer at the top. The Iowa D managed to shut down the Badger running attack, keeping PJ Hill to only 34 yards, who ended up twisting his ankle in the 2nd quarter. Stanzi looked sharp too completing 11 of 18 for 114 yards, 1 TD and no interceptions. The Hawkeye D managed 3 INTs against the two Badger QBs.

It was great to see the Hawkeyes play up to their potential. They are a game away from being bowl eligible. Their next two games are at Illinois and home against Penn St. I wouldn’t count on wins in either of these. Purdue and then at Minnesota are more likely Hawkeye wins.

It would be nice to see Shonn Greene get some Heisman consideration. If he comes back for next season, I’m sure he will be on the early lists.

Wisconsin game

If there is a Big 10 that is more disappointing than the Hawkeyes this season, it is the Badgers. They are currently 0-3 in conference play. Before the season I had marked this game as a definite loss. Now I am not so sure. The Badgers haven’t been very solid at QB, which means they rely on their running game. If there is one thing the Hawks do well, it is stop the run, so advantage Iowa. Also they will be without a 4 year starter at guard and it looks even better for the Hawks.

I’m not willing to predict an upset for the Hawks, but this will be a close low scoring game.

Iowa 45 Indiana 9

The Hawks managed their first Big 10 win of the season and looked really good doing it. No turnovers. Two 100 yard rushers. A dominating defense. What’s not to like? Granted, this is against the Hoosiers who are rebuilding. But a road win in the Big 10 never is that easy and Iowa finally played up to their potential.

Next week, the Badgers visit Iowa City. Wisconsin has not looked good all season and Iowa matches up well with them. This could be the Hawks chance to turn a crappy season around.
