Northwestern 22 Iowa 17

How did the Hawks go from 17-3 to losing 22-17? A lot of sloppy football. The Hawks had eight yards to go with over a minute left and three incompletions gave the Wildcats the win. The Hawks gave up 5 turnovers which the Wildcats were able to convert into points. You’d think with Greene running wild and the Hawkeye D stopping Tyrell Sutton, it should have been easy for the Hawks.

Next up, a tough visit to Mich St.

Pitt 21 Iowa 20

Iowa looked great for the first couple of possessions. Greene looked unstoppable as the Hawks ran their way to a field goal. And on Pitt’s first possession they stripped the ball out of their tailback’s hands. After that, it looked more like last year’s team. The offensive line gave up 6 sacks. Greene got yards but not much else. Stanzi and Christensen didn’t look effective. Iowa had a huge advantage in time of possession and total yards, but couldn’t find the end zone. This is a game the Hawks should have won.

Next up, Northwestern visits Iowa City.

QB Controversy

It looks like there is no set starter for the Pitt game. I personally like the idea of a two QB system for the Hawks this year. It doesn’t matter which you start. If the starter falters, bring in the other guy from the bench. So far this has been working. The replacement does better than the starter and the Hawks win.
