It was announced Thursday that two Hawkeyes were leaving the football team. Sophomore safety Marcus Wilson and junior tight end Lucas Cox will not be part of the team. Cox is intending on transferring to another school. There is no word on why Wilson was leaving. Wilson was projected as a starter at safety. Considering that the defensive backfield is already thin, this is a blow to the Hawks.

Two leave football team
TE Tony Moeaki is on the watch list for the John Mackey Award given to the top college tight end. Moeaki will be starting this season after backing up Scott Chandler for a couple of seasons.
If Moeaki wins, he won’t be the first Hawkeye to win the award. In 2002 Dallas Clark won the award.

Haluska to the Hornets
Iowa guard Adam Haluska was selected by the New Orleans Hornets in the second round with the 43rd pick. This marks the first Hawkeye drafted since JR Koch in 1999 and the only player from the Alford era. I didn’t realize that Alford had yet to produce a player selected in the draft. Good luck to the Lobos. They’ll need it.
