Indiana football coach Terry Hoeppner died after a long battle with brain cancer. He had been the coach at Indiana since 2005 and was making progress in turning around a long suffering program. It is sad to see a good man taken before his time.

Two leave football team
The Hawkeye football team announced that two players were leaving the team. Shonn Greene, a junior running back, and Amari Spievey, a redshirt freshman defensive back, will not be with the team in the fall. No reason was given for the departures. It is doubtful either would have seen much playing time without some injuries above them on the depth chart.

Iowa-ISU on VS
The Sept 15 meeting between Iowa and ISU in Ames will be televised by the VS cable channel. That’s not Victoria’s Secret, but the Versus channel which is probably in the 100s or 200s on your system. The Big 12 has an agreement to air games on VS (makes the Big 10 deal with ESPN look shabby). At least those of us outside of Iowa will get to see the game.
