Draft Day 1

Congrats to Chad Greenway and Abdul Hodge. Greenway was selected by Minnesota with the 17th pick of the 1st round, which is where many mock drafts had him going. Hodge slipped a bit and was selected in the 3rd round with the 67th pick by Green Bay.

Tomorrow will see more Hawkeyes selected. I think Clinton Solomon will go and I would bet that Ed Hinkel will get picked up too. I’d like to see Jovon Johnson and Antwan Allen get picked, but I think they would be considered too short for the NFL.

Greenway joins fellow Ferentz era first round picks: Robert Gallery (no.2, 2004) and Dallas Clark (no. 24, 2003). Greenway is also the 16th Hawkeye taken in the first round.

Herky — worst mascot evah

At least according to SI.com. They listed Herky (at least the basketball version) and the number 1 Not Hot Mascot. They didn’t like polyester pants and the “mom-made” shirt. I tend to agree with them, b-ball Herky could use an update. But I think So. Illinois, Wichita St and Stanford’s mascots are way worse. Stanford is a freakin tree.

Another one leaves

It was announced that Carleton Reed will be leaving the basketball. Reed is transfering to UNI. The former Iowa Mr. Basketball from Waterloo will be a junior. He averaged 8.5 minutes a game and 1.8 pts.

Reed is the 3rd player to transfer this offseason. Including the seniors that graduated, the Hawks have lost 8 players. When you consider this is the first offseason that players don’t need to worry about Alford leaving for Indiana, it seems very curious and it doesn’t bode well for next season.
