I guess beating two ranked teams in a week does something to help your seating. Last week Iowa was a 9 seed, this week in the latest Bracketology Iowa is now a 4 seed. They are projected to play Iona in the first round and then the winner of Oklahoma/Arkansas in the second. I find it interesting that a 4 seed would be ranked 23rd in one poll and unranked in the other. I guess Iowa’s top ten RPI ranking helps a lot.
The rest of the Big Ten does pretty well too. Here are the rest of Big Ten: Illinois (1), Michigan St (3), Ohio St (4), Indiana (5), Wisconsin and Michigan (6). Previous opponents: Iowa St (11), UNI (5!), Texas (2), NC St (5), Kentucky (9).
The Hawkeyes won their second game in a row against a ranked opponent by beating Ohio St in Iowa City last night. The Hawks won with their stubborn defense. At the end of the 2nd half, the Hawks managed to keep the Buckeyes from scoring a field goal for the last six and a half minutes. The Hawks held the Buckeyes to a 35.1% shooting percentage. The offense for the Hawks was better than usual, but a little uneven. For the game they shot 42.4%. Haluska lead with 18 points for the Hawks.
The win puts the Hawks in a tie atop the Big 10. The upcoming schedule doesn’t do the Hawks any favors. They should have an easy one against Purdue next, but after that they have Michigan, at Northwestern and at Indiana. I’d like to think the Hawks could go 3-1 for those four games.
