Updated Bowl Projections

I guess I need to change my bowl prediction again, though I still think the Hawks will go to the Alamo Bowl. I really don’t understand the Big 12. How can the North champion end up playing in such a crappy bowl like the Champ Sports? I would have assumed that they would go to either the Cotton or the Holiday. But SI.com, ESPN.com, have Colorado playing the Champ Sports and CBS SportsLine has them playing in the Independence Bowl. So now I think Iowa will play Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl.

Back to the Hawks. Stewart Mandel at SI.com has Iowa playing Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl. At ESPN.com both Pat Forde and Ivan Maisel pick Iowa to play Nebraska in the Alamo Bowl. At FoxSports.com they pick Iowa to play Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. And CBS Sportsline apparently think the Hawks stink and have them playing Virginia in the Music City Bowl. I seriously doubt that the Sun Bowl would choose Northwestern over Iowa and their fan base.

The Daily Iowan thinks the Hawks will play in either the Outback or Alamo Bowls. Des Moines Register also thinks the Outback Bowl is a possibility, but they don’t think it is very likely.

I think the Nabraska-Iowa matchup in the Alamo Bowl would be a good one. They have played each other in the regular season several times over the past 20 years. We’ll find out where the Hawks are going next weekend.

Revised Hawkeye Bowl Prediction

Since Iowa St couldn’t close the deal in Lawrence yesterday, I have to revise my Hawkeye Bowl prediction. I still believe the Hawks will go to the Alamo Bowl, but they will now play Oklahoma. This should be an interesting matchup. The two teams didn’t live up to the preseason hype. Plus Ferentz vs Stoops, two Hayden Fry assistants, will provide an interesting back story.

Iowa 79 Texas-San Antonio 46

Not much to say about this game. The Hawks were in control the whole game and didn’t get much of a challenge. It was good to see the scoring spread around to more players. Haluska lead with 15, followed by Brunner with 14, Horner with 13 and Thompson with 11. The Hawks didn’t foul much and the Roadrunners had only 5 free throw attempts. One poor point is the Hawks went 3 for 13 in three points attempts. I really hope the Hawks can show a little discipline from the 3 point line and not start chucking it up constantly.

Next up, North Carolina St on the 30th.
