The weekend games didn’t provide any surprises, except for Michigan’s pounding of Northwestern, the Hawkeye’s next opponent. Seeing the Wildcats lose made me hope that Ferentz was watching the game closely. I’m not sure Iowa has the defense to replicate what the Wolverines did. Michigan played a very physical game on defense and caused some turnovers. They were able to take the Wildcat’s offense out of their comfort zone.
I think the Hawkeyes game will be much closer. I think Iowa’s offense is similar to Michigan’s and will be able to score fairly well. Iowa has had some trouble with spread offenses and that will be the key to the game. I think the Hawks can squeak by with a victory, 35-28.
What happened to Minnesota? I guess the rest of the Big 10 figured out they are a one dimensional team.
The other big game next weekend is Wisconsin visiting Penn State. I like the Nittany Lions in this one. Wisconsin’s defense is so suspect, I think Penn St will score huge on them, possibly 48 points. Penn St should cruise to a share of the Big 10 title with that win and a final game against Michigan St. Ohio St might share the title if they can beat Michigan.
The rest of the games are pretty lopsided, so don’t expect any surprises.
